Crescent Lagoon State School was established on 8 July 1896 and had 82 students enrolled. Our school and community recently celebrated 125 years in education and now have a student population of approximately 450 students. Our school is situated on Darumbal Country and we pay our respects to the Darumbal people as the traditional custodians of this land and acknowledge their continuing connection to land, culture and community. We pay our respects to elders past and present for they hold the stories, the traditions, the culture and the hopes of Australia’s First Nation people. We are very proud to have a long term relationship with the Hatfield family and are privileged to have them deliver the Darumbal Language Program to our students.
Crescent Lagoon State School experiences a positive and respected profile throughout the Rockhampton District. As a school we are aware of the importance of education and are committed to equity and excellence in education. Crescent Lagoon is proud of the many traditions and strong values that are in place and have been passed down throughout the years. Students have opportunities to participate in a range of experiences which enhance their learning. These include: Instrumental Music (woodwind and strings), Choir, Choral Festival, inter-school sport, Book Week, and Extended Learning Programs such as Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
At Crescent Lagoon, our four values are Being Safe, Being a Learner, Being Respectful and Being Responsible. Our School Code of Conduct supports students in their growth and emphasises the notion of acknowledging positive and respectful behaviours.
The personal commitment and dedication of our staff is integral to the success of our school. Crescent Lagoon SS has a high level of parental involvement and these partnerships enable each child to achieve quality education outcomes within a caring environment. Our highly accomplished and dedicated team look forward to working with you, your child and your family to ensure that your child is given every possible opportunity to succeed and become confident, creative lifelong learners. We look forward to connecting with you and welcoming you into our Crescent Lagoon family.
The success of all who have worked so hard to establish and maintain the great character of the Crescent Lagoon State School is clearly evident in the school and in the spirit of the children and the community. – Mike Maher
